High Tea

Sometimes you choose your friends. And sometimes, things just fall into place.

In June of 2003, we were at a pet store to buy one of the thousands of pet supplies that we usually get, and we ran across a small parrot, muddy and ugly colored. After several weeks of research, we finally decided that we could make acceptable parrot owners, and brought home this silly colored bird.

In the first six months that Tea lived with us, I taught him to bite me and to scream for attention. I learned precisely how loud they meant when they said 'sun conures are really loud birds'. I cried on several occasions, I wondered what exactly I had gotten myself into... And I learned.

He was (and frequently still is) the most obnoxious creature I have ever met.

And yet, nothing has thrilled me more than watching him molt into his adult colors, watching him explore the universe, learning how to fly. We have both learned a lot about each other, and we learn more every day.

Stilton and Anisette

Update on them shortly.

Cinereo

I'll admit it. After several months of owning conures, I thought I was more than ready to deal with an African grey. How different could they really be?

Really, really, really different.
